Scotland - North East Coast

According to the sign this whole Noss headland was once the bed of Lake Orcadie that was situated 15 degrees south of the equator! The sedimentary layers we see in the stacks were laid down in the lake 370 million years ago. This North American Continental plate moved north, raised up and subsequently eroded to what we see today.
